Valerie Lynn Gibson, 49, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015. Born in jamboree, KY, she was the daughter of the Late Betty Ruth Smith and Emmit Gibson.

Growing up in Matewan, WV, Val enjoyed puzzle books and later was always found with a Nicholas Sparks novel. She loved to travel and recently took a trip across the U.S. in a semi and she loved family vacations to the beach. She loved listening to music and one of her favorites was the gospel group the Cooks. She loved spending time with her family and she constantly was playing with her great niece Chelsea.

She is survived by her sisters, Pamela (Steven Jackson) Edwards and Connie (Earl) Daniels; brother, Glen (Carol) Gibson; numerous nieces and nephews including Delina (Robert) Richardson and Deidra Jude, with whom she made her home; great nephew and niece, Gage Dalton and Chelsea; sister-in-law, Earnestine Gibson, Pat Gibson and Brenda Gibson. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Michael Ray Workman, Donnie Gibson, Emmit Clifton Gibson and Gary Randall Gibson.

A memorial gathering will be 1-3 PM Sunday at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
