Allan Frederic “Fred” Golding, 82, loving father and devoted husband of Helen Kropac Golding, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016. Born in Lancaster, OH, he was the son of the late Charles and Vergene Neuman Golding.
A graduate of Akron University, he was as an All-American basketball player and still holds the career rebounding and free throw percentage records at the school. He is a member of the Akron University Athletic Hall of Fame and the Summit County Sports Hall of Fame in Akron, Ohio.
A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served as the CEO of EIMCO a mining equipment manufacturing company and held other management positions throughout his career before retiring. He was an avid golfer, loved playing cards, devoted his time to his family and especially loved being a grandfather.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by his children, Mary (John) Turbek, Allan “Fred” (Michelle) Golding, John (Sarah) Golding, and Charles Golding; brothers, Larry Golding, Charles Golding, Jr and Jerry Little; as well as six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandy Winkler.
Funeral services will be 5 PM Saturday at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 4 PM. Private burial will be held at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. www.johnsonsfuneralhome.com
