Nancy Ford (Nunnelley) Phares, 84, passed away Saturday, May 14th, 2016. She was born October 16th, 1931 in Lexington, Kentucky, daughter of the late Ford and Kathryn (Hollingsworth) Nunnelley. Nancy was a tireless worker in her field of employment as well as her many civic based functions and social endeavors. She was a pioneering business person who broke the mold of a woman’s role in the 50’s by working hard to climb the ladder of business success. After graduating from U of K, she worked in many fields and finally settled in the finance business. In this field she was able to pursue her mission of providing the expertise and funding structure to develop thousands of units of safe, decent housing for less fortunate, low income people. She has won countless lifetime achievement awards offered by the various housing and civic organizations in and around Kentucky. Her efforts in this field as well as work she did for the betterment of Georgetown and Scott County will be sorely missed. Nancy is survived by her son, Ford (Sharon) Phares; son-in-law, Bill Garriott; three grandchildren, Kate (Shane) Sablotsky, Nathan Phares and Richie Phares; three great-grandsons, Sam, Levi and David Sablotsky; her lifelong best friend and cousin, Sally Gano Hays. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathryn Phares Garriott. Visitation will be Friday, May 20th, from 4 to 7pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home and from 1 to 3pm on Saturday, May 21st, at The Episcopal Church of The Holy Trinity, where memorial service will be held at 3pm with The Rev. Linda McCloud officiating.
