John Allen Compton, age 71, of Georgetown, KY (formerly of Kingsport, TN) died Tuesday May 24, 2016. Mr. Compton graduated from Ketron High School and East Tennessee University. He was employed by Sullivan County Department of Education for 41 years. He served as a teacher and head football coach at Sullivan West High School from 1975 to 1979 and Sullivan South High School from 1980 to 1989. He served as Athletic Director and Assistant Principal until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church in Kingsport and Trinity Hill United Methodist Church in Lexington, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents John H. and Anna Marie Salley Compton; brother Benny F. Compton; nephew Lance Compton. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Dolores Hunt Compton; daughter Shonda Compton Peters and husband David Peters of Georgetown, KY; granddaughters Makenzie and Anna Peters.

Calling hours are from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at Sullivan South High School gymnasium. A life celebration will be conducted at 7:30 pm with Rev Ray Amos officiating. Graveside service will be at 10:00 am at East Lawn Memorial Park on Friday May 27th.
