Florence Mills Johnston, 89, widow of Wesley Pearl Johnston, passed away Sunday, June 19th, 2016 in Georgetown, Kentucky, where she resided for the past twelve years. She was born September 29th, 1926 in Clintwood, Virginia, daughter of the late Henry Willington and Lily Alice (Newberry) Mills. Florence was a retired hairdresser and owned two shops, Florence’s Beauty Shop in Appalachia, Virginia and Trail Beauty Shop in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Appalachia, Virginia and First Christian Church in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. She enjoyed gardening and flowers and was a member of the Hearts Ease Garden Club. Florence was an avid bowler for many years on several different bowling leagues and received numerous trophies. Florence is survived by her daughter, Linda (Stephen) King; her son, Joseph “Joe” (Andi) Johnston; two brothers, Oscar Bell and Farris Mills. In addition to her parents and husband, Florence was preceded in death by her grandson, Tyler Benjamin Johnston; five brothers, Rufus Mills, Gus Mills, Johnny Mills, Frank Mills, George Bell; two sisters, Lulu Mills Rose and Carrie Bell Fields. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 1pm Friday at Georgetown Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be David Brock, Johnny Woodward, David Burchfield, Bob Gillenwater, Wayne Mitchell and Steve Fitch. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Prent Dishman.
