Dr. Albert E. Drake, 89, widower of Katherine Ashby Drake passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016, in the comfort of his home. Dr. Drake was born June 12, 1927 in Stamping Ground, KY. He was the son of the late John L and Della Humphrey Drake.
After service as a China Marine at the end of World War II, Albert attended Georgetown College, graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor and Master degrees in Agriculture and earned his Ph.D. in Agriculture Economics from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Starting from humble beginnings to a career as a college professor, Dr. Drake recognized that an education could open opportunities never thought possible and create a better life for oneself and one’s family. It was through his career that he realized the impact he had in the lives of others. Ultimately, Albert was elected into the University of Alabama Business School Hall of Fame.
Dr. Drake is survived by his four children, Alan S. Drake, Paul (Robin) Drake, Jane Drake Hale and Phil (Laurna) Drake; his sister, Kathryn DiTardi; six grandchildren, Amanda Drake, Daniel Drake, Sarah Drake, Alex Drake, Mitchell Drake and Elaine Drake; friend and caregiver, Kathy Blanton; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2016, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation is 2 – 5 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2016, at the Johnson’s Funeral Home in Georgetown, KY. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of one's choice.
