Obituary for George "Bucky" Lee Sallee

George "Bucky" Lee  Sallee
George “Bucky” Lee Sallee, 87, Bugler Emeritus at Keeneland and husband of Barbara Cook Sallee, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016. Born in Lexington, he was the son of the late Thomas Coleman and George Merrill Sallee.

Bucky served as a supervisor for the Public Service Commission for 38 years. A renowned musician, Bucky played the trumpet and saxophone with notable bands Little Enis and the Fabulous Table Toppers. He also performed with many headliners, such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Charlie Daniels and Fats Domino. Bucky started moonlighting at Keeneland in the 1960’s and continued on until his retirement in 2013. During that time Bucky played the “Call to the Post” more than 10,000 times.

In addition to his wife of 38 years, he is survived by his son, Thomas Lee (Rose) Sallee, Keene, KY; grandchildren, Amy, Damon and Christy Sallee; nine great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Therese Welch; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Thomas) McCallister; niece, Barabara (Chuck) McCallister; nephews, Thomas (Jennifer) McCallister and John McCallister; as well as five great nieces and nephews and five great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Sallee; sons, Larry and Doug Salle and Lester Teater, II.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Thursday at Georgetown First United Methodist Church, conducted by Pastors Greg Gallaher and Andrew Singh. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Lexington. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Wednesday at Johnson's Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Georgetown First United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
