Obituary for Joan Millett Currier

Joan Millett Currier, age 87, loving wife of Dean, passed away Tuesday March 28, 2017 after suffering with a back fracture and memory loss. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ, on 24 February 1930 to the late Walter and Irene Millett of Roselle Park, NJ.
Joan graduated from Roselle Park High School of NJ in 1947 and attended Bethany College in WV, where she was active in drama and a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. In 1951 she graduated from East Stroudsburg PA Teachers College with a BA in elementary education. She modeled while in college.
She taught 4th grade in Plainfield NJ in 1951-52. In 1953, she was a supervisor at Miller and Rhoads of Richmond, VA. While her husband was in the Public Health Service, she taught fifth grade at Upper Montclair, NJ in 1954 and 1955. She taught children while living on a hospital base in Louisiana in 1956-57. In 1960’s she was a Girl Scout leader in Towson, MD. In 1976 she was a docent at a history museum in Edmonton, Alberta. One year she was head of the Woman’s Club at the University of Kentucky. In the 1980’s she volunteered at the Scott County Public Library in Georgetown, KY.
She was a voracious reader, loved camping and traveling throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Joan enjoyed interior decorating and visiting Myrtle Beach for 40 years. She is known by friends for matching clothing and ball caps. She attended sports events of the University of Kentucky and games played by the Lexington Legends.
Joan was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She is predeceased by daughter Marci Ann and brother Walter. She is survived by husband Dean P, daughters Wendy Zumwalt of Lexington, KY, Tracey Currier of Germantown, MD, son Brad Currier of Frankfort, KY, and two granddaughters Clara and Julia.
She was of the Episcopal faith and is buried in the Georgetown, KY cemetery.
