Obituary for Lawrence Young Jr.

Lawrence Young, Jr., 96, widower of Mary Emma (Marks) Young, passed away Thursday, April 27th, 2017. He was born January 27th, 1921 in Scott County, Kentucky, son of the late Lawrence and Mattie (Brooks) Young. Lawrence served in the United States Army and worked at the Bluegrass Army Depot for thirty eight years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Stamping Ground and the American Legion Post 24 in Georgetown. Lawrence is survived by his three sons, Walter Douglas (Cathy) Young, Glenn “Mickey” (Gwendolyn) Young and Russell Wayne Young; seven grandchildren, Wendy L. Young, Glenn (Lesley) Young, Jr., Damien (Kristi) Hall, Kevin Taylor, Tim Young, Brandon Hunter and LaTorya Ingram; eight great-grandchildren, Glenn Young, III, Guyon Young, Gabriel Young, Kaleb Hall, Kyan Hall, Tannare Brown, Keetyn Hall and Gia Young; one sister, Sally Mae Henderson; one sister-in-law, Hattie Mae Marks; a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by one sister, Florence Simmons and three brothers, Charles Young, James young and Harold Young. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 2nd, at First Baptist Church in Stamping Ground from Noon until time of service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John Travis officiating. Burial will be in the First Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post 24. Serving as pallbearers will be Glenn Young, Jr., Eddie Talbert, John Henderson, Jr., Aaron Wilson, Damien Hall, Allen Talbert and Byron Wilson. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Young, Marcellus McIntyre, Toby Harris, Anthony Washington, Chris Johnson, Emmanuel Young and Deacons of First Baptist Church of Stamping Ground. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church.
