Obituary for Katherine Verinice Moore (Moffett)

Katherine Verinice Moffett Moore, 97, widow of Jessie Hawkins Moore, passed away Wednesday, July 12th, 2017. She was born June 7th, 1920 in Seneca, South Carolina, daughter of the late Edward and Ellen (Kilpatrick) Moffett. Katherine graduated from Ed Davis High School and retired from the University of Kentucky Culinary Department. She professed Christ at an early age and was an active member of First Baptist Church for eighty-eight years and taught Sunday school up until recently and was a Vacation Bible School Teacher. Katherine was also a member of the Homemakers Club, Baptist Women’s Missionary, Red Circle Girls, she enjoyed cooking and reading her Bible, enjoyed traveling and loved to have family and friends stop by her home to visit any chance they could. She is survived by one daughter, Ellen (Lorris) Gibson of San Antonia, Texas; one son, Norman Anderson (Glenda) Harris of Bradford, Indiana; two sisters, Julia Letcher of Cincinnati, Ohio and Daisy Spotts of Georgetown, Kentucky; twelve grandchildren, Kathy Gibson, Louis Gibson, Jr., Patricia Gibson, Antonette Gibson, Adrian Gibson, Robin Kembrow, Sheila Harris, Todd Harris, Terry Martin, Tracy Harris, Keith Martin and Darrin Harris; several great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Katherine was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Edward Harris and George Estill Harris; four sisters, Mayme Morton, Lucille Riley, Viola Garmony and Ellen Johnson. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Katherine’s caregivers, Mary McIntyre, Doris Duckworth, Marilyn Primus, Richard Semler, Anita Smith and Brenda Christopher. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 18th at First Baptist Church, 1330 Lexington Road, Georgetown from 10am until time of service at Noon with Dr. Frank Warren Houston officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Letcher, Theodore Stotts, Tracy Harris, Quinton Martin, Isaiah Martin and St. Claire Wilson, Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of The Homemaker’s Society. Burial will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Johnson’s Funeral Home is handling the arrangements on behalf of the family. .
