Obituary for Etwell Jenkins (Owens)

Etwell Jenkins, 91, of Georgetown, widow of Robert W. Jenkins, was peacefully and gracefully called home while surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 2nd, 2017. Etwell was a member of Penn Avenue Baptist Church. She was born July 17th, 1926, in Wheeling, Virginia, daughter of the late Henry and Elsie (Atwood) Owens. Etwell was adored by her children, Edward Lay, Phyllis (Charles) Sanders, Darlene (Dickie) Darnell, Garnett (Lena) Lay, Wanda (William) Couch, Larry (Joy) Lay and Joyce (Tommy) Adams. She left a legacy of love with her twenty-two grandchildren, her numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren. Etwell was blessed with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Etwell is survived by her sister, Dorothy Green and two brothers, Wayne (Erlene) Owens and Lonie (Lona) Owens; a very dear and special friend, Jim Hilton. Besides her parents and husband, Etwell was preceded in death by the father of her children, Harvey Lay; four grandchildren; three brothers, Sewell Owens, Clyde Owens and Delmar Owens. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 6th from 5 to 8pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home, where services will be held on Tuesday at 1pm with Rev. Bobby Sageser and Rev. Steven B. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Dwayne Adams, Richie Darnell, Mark Lay, Jeffrey Lay, Gary Lay, Chris Sanders, Trampus Offutt and Tony Perkins. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Etwell’s granddaughters and additional grandsons. Memorial contributions may be directed to Bluegrass Hospice Care, 1317 US Highway 62E, Cynthiana, Kentucky 41031.
