Obituary for Nancy Shropshire Blazer

On November 17, 2017 Nancy Shropshire Blazer passed away peacefully at her home, in which she was born. She was born September 6, 1923 to Mattie Craig & Grover Shropshire in Georgetown, KY. Following her Graduation from the University of Kentucky, she married Paul G. Blazer, Jr. They resided in Henderson, KY and Cincinnati, OH before settling in Ashland, KY. There they had and raised three daughters; Nancy Monroe Blazer (Deceased), Martha Blazer Smith (Ben) of Scott, Co, and Barrie Blazer Conner (Sam) of Oldham Co. They were long time members of the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland.

In May 2004, Nancy was honored to receive the Ida Lee Willis Memorial Award for Historic Preservation. According to the Ashland Daily Independent, she was “a wonderful role model for preservation. At every opportunity she builds consciousness of historic preservation, sense of place, and economic value. Preservation is her passion”.

After her husband Paul passed away in 1997, she restored and moved into her childhood home in Georgetown, KY at which time she renewed her membership to the First Christian Church.

She is survived by her two daughters, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 2:00 pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home, 641 S. Broadway, Georgetown, KY 40324.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Sanders Brown Center on Aging, 300 West Vine Street, Suite 601, Lexington, KY 40507, Hospice-Bluegrass Care Navigators, 1317 US 62, Cynthiana, KY 41031, or the charity of your choice.

The family wishes to thank her wonderful caregivers: Poppy Hampton, Virginia Houston, Jackie Fullwood, Connie Mowery, Georgia Lockridge and the staff of Hospice.
