Obituary for Dorothy Robinson Cox

Dorothy Robinson Cox, 95, daughter of the late Homer L. and Virginia C. Robinson and wife of the late Douglas W. Cox of Georgetown, Kentucky died Thursday, March 29th.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Georgetown. A graduate of the University of Kentucky with an AB degree in education and a special area of study in Art, she went on to teach at Midway College and Georgetown College. Other educational studies were obtained from the Art Institute in Chicago, IL, the Dayton Art Institute, Dayton, OH, and Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, KY. She directed state art education association workshops for elementary teachers, creating art with minimum means and received an educational grant to research Kentucky clay as a natural source for environmental art. Her paintings and other works have been exhibited in numerous state and one- man art shows. Throughout her earlier years she was a Girl Scout leader and scouting board member on the local and state level.

She is survived by a son, Douglas E. Cox (Sandra) of Madison, AL and a daughter, Virginia Van Meter (Martin) of Georgetown, KY. Her four grandchildren, Elizabeth Van Meter (Georgetown, KY), David Van Meter (Tampa, FL), Clinton Cox (Ft. Benning, GA) and D. Clay Cox (Harrisburg, NC) will be her pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Sunshine and Lynn Young. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service and burial will be held at the Georgetown Cemetery at 11am Saturday, 7 April. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Georgetown & Scott County Museum.
