Obituary for Vernon "Junior" Scott

Vernon “Junior” Scott, 81, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018. He was born on June 25, 1936 in Danville, Kentucky, son of the late Vernon William and Hallie (Wilson) Scott. Junior was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. He loved farming, being around animals and drag racing. Junior taught himself to play the guitar and was a member of The Gospel Stairway’s Group and had performed at Renfro Valley. He owned Scott’s Grocery for twenty years and was considered one of the best meat cutters in Scott County; he also owned Scott’s Auto Parts and had a country music entertainment club called Junior’s Place. Junior is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-three years and business partner, Annetta (Bailey) Scott; his daughter, Nancy (Billy) Hafley; his son, Steve Scott; four grandchildren, Brooklyn (Gary) Willoughby, Olivia (Chris) Purciful, Josh Scott and Jeremy (Shanna) Johnson; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Denzil (Joanie) Scott. In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by one grandson, Eric Billy-Scott Hafley and several brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 17, from 5 to 8pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home, where services will be held at 1:30PM on Wednesday with Pastor Sam Glenn officiating. Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jacob Howard, Willard Scott, Don Whitlock, Mike Dewes, Freddie Cook, Josh Scott and Richard Grimes. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Braxton Hafley, Ted Hafley, Dave Willis, James Mullins, Jim Ginn, Mike Gillispie and James “Chip” Barton.
