Shirley G. (Gilbert) Burgess, 75, widow of Charles M. Burgess, passed away Wednesday, April 25th, 2018. She was born September 14th, 1942 in Lexington, Kentucky, daughter of the late Claude and Bessie (Bailey) Gilbert. Shirley was a member of Safe Harbor Baptist Church and she lived by her faith. Shirley loved being a mother and grandmother, the legacy she leaves behind is based on love. She is survived by two daughters, Dana (Ray) Romero and Tina (Harvey) Gillispie; three sons, Charles “Chuck” (Margaret Kay) Burgess, Mike Burgess and Phillip (Tammy) Burgess; six grandchildren, Nathan (Shelby) Burgess, Savannah (Mikey White) Gillispie, Charles Daniel (Whitley) Burgess, Samantha (Luke) Brewer, Justin Romero and Cody Romero; two great grandchildren, Alexia Burgess and Colton Brewer; one sister, Hattie “Penny” Price; two brothers, Jerry “Jay” (Carol) Gilbert and Joe (Debbie) Gilbert; sister-in-law, Barbara Gilbert; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by one grandson, Phillip Burgess, Jr; one brother, Claude “Junior” Gilbert; one brother-in-law, Dean Price. Visitation will be Sunday, April 29th, at Johnson’s Funeral Home from 2PM until time of Shirley’s Celebration of Life service at 4PM with Pastor Andy Waldroup, Pastor Dwayne Russell and Savannah Gillispie officiating.
