William (June) L. Black, Jr, Indianapolis, IN, departed this life peacefully, July 23, 2018 in Indianapolis. Born May 8th, 1951 in Georgetown, KY as the only son of the late William L. and Bettie Mae (Broomfield) Black he learned to work on cars at an early age. Upon High School graduation William entered the Air Force where he served as an Air Traffic Controller. After completing his Air Force tour of duty, he embarked upon a Law Enforcement career with the Kentucky State Police that spanned over 15 years & included being assigned to the Executive Protection Detail to protect the governor. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Georgetown, KY, however he served as pastor of several United Methodist Churches for over 8 years. Under his leadership a Fellowship Hall was completed at Jimtown United Methodist. William was known for lending a hand to those he came in contact with, touched the lives of many yet retained his trademark sense of honesty & frankness all the way to the end. He will be especially remembered for his imaginative paintings that will be treasured by many for generations to come.
To mourn his loss, he leaves his wife, Dianna (Relford) Black, sons, Bryan (Katie) Black, Reginald (Kisha) Talbert, daughter, Cassaundra Talbert (Collin) Webb, granddaughters, Tahlia & Arianna Black, Kennedy Talbert, grandsons, Zandell & Zavion Wright, Matthew Talbert, Collin Webb, sisters, Mary (Givens) Hayden, Patricia, Diane, Pamela Black (Anthony Davis), Marlene (Black) Johnson, nieces, Antimony Bishop (who he considered his daughter) Miakesha Sidney, Maya Johnson, great nephews, Travis Campbell (Casey Palmer), Major and Maestro Sidney, great nieces, Lyric and Symphony Sidney, irreplaceable cousin, Maggie Hawkins, a host of other relatives, in-laws & friends.
He was preceded in death by son, Elliott Carter, granddaughter, Avery Black and niece, Edna Jones.
Funeral services will be 12 PM Monday at Georgetown First United Methodist Church, conducted by Pastor Freddie Patterson. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville, KY. Visitation will be 4-6 PM Sunday at Johnson’s Funeral Home and 10 AM till service time on Monday at the church.
