Obituary for Bernice "Bee" Starns

Jesse Bernice “Bee” (Spivey) Starns, widow of Warren William “Bill” Starns, died on September 9, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born June 23, 1931 in Knox County, KY to the late Wilson and Ida Mae (Philpot) Spivey. She was the next to youngest of eight siblings, five boys and three girls, all who proceeded her in death. She is survived by her beloved sons, Warren Scott (Christine), (Georgetown) and William Todd, (Georgetown), her very beloved grandson William Kyle (Lexington). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Ken (Barb) Spivey, Diane (Gerald) Lyons, Terry Stone and their families as well as numerous other nieces and nephews of the Spivey family.

Bee loved fashion and worked in the industry as a model, a buyer and then as a manager. A former restaurant owner, she learned the antique trade and spent many years as owner and proprietor of Bee’s Antiques in Lexington and Georgetown. She married the love of her life, Bill, on August 25, 1956 and was married for 36 years until his death. Her greatest joy was raising her sons and helping to raise her grandson. She was always the consummate hostess for all family holiday gatherings and welcomed her son’s and grandson’s friends into her home.

She loved her Wildcats whether football or basketball and watched faithfully. In her retirement years she loved her trips with her two favorite friends, who predeceased her, Peggy and Kat (Bee’s sister) to Belterra, Keeneland or wherever Peggy drove.

The vivacious Bee is missed by all who knew her. A gathering of friends and family is planned for Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 2:00 -4:00 PM at Johnson’s Funeral Home in Georgetown. In Lieu of flowers, donations to Bluegrass Hospice Care are requested.
