Mary Emma Young, 86, wife of Lawrence Young, Jr, passed away Thursday, Aug 25, 2016. Born in Owen Co, KY, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Shirley Jenkins Marks.
A graduate of Kentucky State University, receiving both her Bachelors and Masters degrees, she was a social worker for the state of Kentucky. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stamping Ground where she served as a Sunday School teacher, pianist, sung in the choir and had served as the church secretary. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, and served as a substitute teacher for Scott County Public School.
In addition to her husband of 68 years, she is survived by her sons, Walter Douglas (Cathy) Young, Georgetown, Glenn “Mickey” (Gwendolyn) Young, Boston, KY, and Russell Wayne (Debbie) Young, Stamping Ground; grandchildren, Wendy L. Young, Glenn (Lesley) Young, Jr, Damien (Kristi) Hall, Kevin Taylor, Tim Young, Troy Young, Brandon Hunter, and LaToya Ingram; great grandchildren, Glenn Young, III, Guyon Young, Gabriel Young, Kaleb Hall, Kyan Hall, Tannare Brown, Keetyn Hall, and Gia Young. She was preceded in death by her sister, Anner J. Talbert; and brothers Julius, James, Bill, Harry, and Samuel Marks.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Stamping Ground, conducted by Rev. John Travis. Burial will follow at the First Baptist Church Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Byron Wilson, Aaron Wilson, Chris Travis, Allen Talbert, James Talbert, Logan Travis, Mario McIntyre, Marcellus McIntyre, John Henderson Jr, Toby Harris, Anthony Washington, Damien Hall, and Glenn Young, Jr. Visitation will be 12 PM till service time at the church.
