Obituary for Betty Laverne Arthur (Mullins)

Betty Laverne (Mullins) Arthur, 73, passed away Monday, February 6, 2017. She was born September 19, 1943 in Hellier, Kentucky, daughter of the late Alexander and Burtis (Moore) Mullins. Betty served in the United States Army Reserve. She was a retired real estate agent with Rector-Hayden Realtors, where she was a member of the Million Dollar Club and was currently the office manager for P.J.’s Truck and Trailer Repair. We were blessed to have learned many valuable lessons from Mamaw during her 73 years on earth, among them: Always hang your bathing suit up to dry, if you don't, "you'll get ants in your pants." When a stray cat is hungry, feed him and name him Buster. When he brings his friends, feed them too. When you're a grandparent, coffee and fried Krispy Kreme's is an acceptable midnight snack. Let a dog (or two) share your bed with you. Nothing soothes the soul like a trip to the beach. And finally, never say bad things about anybody; "pray hard for them." In her lifetime, Betty planted many seeds, shared her time and all she could give. She was never one to want anything for herself and you never heard her complain. The way she loved her children and grandchildren was a love without end. But I believe the most important lesson she ever taught us was to look at people beyond their failures and love them unconditionally. She truly loved the souls of others and had a rare ability to extend her hand and her heart to those in need. Betty is survived by two daughters, Terri (Chris Douglas) Pennington and Candi (Chris) Hambrick; one step-daughter, Angie (Dan) Webb; one step-son, Danny (Carla) Arthur; eleven grandchildren, Jessica (Roger) Persley, Thomas Hughes, Chad Hughes, Nathan Hughes, Cori (Carl) Collins, Megan (Matt) Shannon, Mackenzie (Robbie Bailey) Hambrick, Madison (Cody) Rankin, Jonathan Arthur, Colten Hambrick and Michael Trent Horn; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Violet Johnson and Stacy (Ronnie) Hicks; two brothers, Teddy (Betty) Mullins and Roy (Jean) Mullins; her former husband and good friend, John T. Arthur. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by two daughters, Tammy Lee Hogan and Frances Michele Horn. One brother Bertley Mullins. Visitation will be Friday, February 10th from 5 to 8pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home, where services will be held on Saturday at 11am. Burial will be at Georgetown Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Colten Hambrick, Trent Horn, Jakobi Godfrey, Chad Hughes, Jonathan Arthur and Danny Arthur. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Hughes and Nathan Hughes.
