Obituary for John Francis Cannon

John Francis Cannon, Jr, 73, husband of Jennie Hamilton Cannon, passed away at his home, June 7, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was a life-long resident of the Oxford community. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Jackie Cannon-Harris and granddaughter, Jilliann Kasey Harris; step-son, Hamilton Neal; step grandchildren, Ellie and Parker Neal; nephew, Terry Tutt; niece, Lou Ann Williamson; as well as several great nephews and a great niece. Johnny was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristen Carol Cannon; parents, John Francis and Mildred Cannon; sisters, Betty Lou Tutt and Ann Williamson; and niece, Susan Tutt.

Johnny worked at IBM for 25 years and farmed part time. When he retired, he fulfilled his dream of farming full time. He also worked at Keeneland the last few years.

A member of the Oxford Christian Church, he loved his community and served on the following boards: SC Parks and Recreation, KY Farm Bureau, Cattlemen, Southern States, Final Adjustment and was currently serving on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Monday at Johnson’s Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Chris Cash. Burial will follow at the Georgetown Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Tina Bach, Ronnie Fulton, Robbie Daugherty, Dusty Adkins, Brad Green, Jonathan Tutt and Vernon Mullett. Honorary bearers will be Steve Brown, Johnny Dillon, Bobby Green, Johnny Griffin, Phil House, David Jacobs, Jerry Martin, John Matheny, Bruce McMillin, Pat McMillin, Jim Richardson, Chuck Tackett, Allen Christopher, Duwan Garrett and Jim Vance. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oxford Christian Church or Bluegrass Hospice Care.
