Obituary for James Anderson "Jimbo" Vance

James “Jimmy” Anderson Vance, better known to his family and friends as “Jimbo”, 87, widower of June Curns Vance and Dorothy Tackett Duncan Vance, passed away on Monday, June 3rd, 2019. He was born on April 3rd, 1932 in Scott County, Kentucky, son of the late Orlie Lee and Anna May (Dixon) Vance. Jimmy served in the United States Army and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He retired from The Rockwell Corporation and had been a tobacco farmer for many years and he could fix anything that needed repaired. Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Tammy Rene Smith; his son, Darrell D. Vance; three grandchildren, Robert Smith, Brady Smith and Lori Ann Smith; and one great-granddaughter, Aubrey Smith; one great-grandson, Colby Smith; two sisters-in-law, Carol Vance who cared for him for the past eight years in her home and Georgie Vance; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wives, Jimmy was preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Elizabeth Dowell and Geraline Tingle; four brothers, Joe Vance, Danny Vance, Donnie Vance and Glenn Vance. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 6th, from 11:00am until time of service at Noon at Johnson’s Funeral Home with Dr. Billy Strother officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 24 of Georgetown. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Vance, Mitchell Vance, Justin Vance, Dakota Vance and Steve Vance.
