Obituary for Rita Nancy Sadlon
Rita Nancy (Bowers) Sadlon, 90, of Georgetown, Kentucky, passed away at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington on Sunday, May 10th, 2020. The youngest daughter of Charles and Annabelle (Moyer) Bowers, Rita was born on February 26th, 1930, in Spangler, Pennsylvania, and for over 56 years was the beloved wife of John Sadlon until his death in 2006. Rita was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Georgetown and she loved and trusted the Lord with all her heart from the time she was a child, relying on Him to carry her through all her life’s experiences. She prayed for her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren consistently and faithfully.
Rita’s greatest joy on earth was her family and considered her role as a wife and mother part of God’s plan. She was the mother of five children, John (Elaine) Sadlon of Georgetown, KY, Gary (Christine) Sadlon of San Antonio, TX, Nancy (Gary) Folckemer of Richmond, KY, Jill (Keith) Starzman of Frankfort, KY, and Jayne (Jeff) Violette of Bluffton, SC; 13 grandchildren, Wendy (Sadlon) Wells, Jessica (Sadlon) Garrison, John Eric Sadlon, Erica Sadlon, Kristie Sadlon, Ashley (Sadlon) McCool, Nathan Boyer, Seth Boyer, Jordan Boyer, Caleb Boyer, Laura (Starzman) Stark, Charlie Starzman, and Alexis Violette; and eight great-grandchildren, Paige Wells, Gabrielle Phillips, Thomas Garrison, Hayden Garrison, Liam Garrison, Colin Boyer, Emma Boyer, and Megan Boyer. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Valetta Malkin and Vivian Pritts; and brothers, Charles Bowers and Jack Bowers.
An accomplished and well-known musician, Rita gave piano and organ lessons to hundreds of students throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky for 70 years, many of whom went on to become professional musicians and music teachers themselves. In addition to her teaching career, Rita served the Lord with her talents as the church organist for Graef’s Lutheran Church in Cairnbrook, PA, for many years and then played for other churches she attended in Ohio and Kentucky later in her life. She loved classical music and attending symphonic concerts throughout her lifetime, with John by her side, holding her hand while the music played on. Chopin was her favorite composer.
Rita will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Georgetown Cemetery at a private family ceremony. Rita will be remembered by her children and grandchildren as an encourager, always supportive and motivational toward their successful endeavors. A service in her honor will be held at a later date.
