Obituary for Charles Robert "Bob" Bohaning

Charles Robert “Bob” Bohaning was welcomed home by his Lord & Savior on January 20, 2022. He was born on July 10, 1936 to John Clay "J.C." and Freda (Hendricks) Bohaning in Louisville, KY and lived fully until his death at age 85 in Lexington, KY. He married Mildred Fayetta Kiper, joining two hearts to spend 64 years together. His deepest joy was centered on his family. Along with his wife, Bob invested his immeasurable love, time, and encouragement into the lives of his children. Terry Bohaning and Teresa (Bohaning) Ryan were blessed to call him Dad, in addition to him considering his son-in-law, Perry Ryan, as one of his own. His radiant smile was always the brightest in the presence of his grandchildren, Robert Bohaning and Sarah Ryan, whom he adored. He eagerly welcomed Sarah's fiance‘, Garrett Sipes, into the family.

While Bob received many accolades in life both personally and professionally, he considered his greatest achievement to be his roles as a husband, father, and grandfather. He was known for his committment, service, integrity, a desire to excel no matter how small or large a task, and his zest for having fun while doing so. He was quick-witted and always had a pun or joke to share. While he cheered for all Kentucky teams, his loyalty remained with the team of his childhood, the University of Louisville Cardinals. Bob was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for over 38 years, initially riding the mail trains and sorting mail on route to and from Chicago. His work ethic and interpersonal skills, propelled his rise into Postmaster positions in LaGrange and later Bowling Green, KY. His final position was serving as the Regional Postal Manager for the Western District of Kentucky. As a people-person, he desired to return to work after a few quiet months of retirement. Following a move to Georgetown, Bob found that niche in his work family at ADESA Auto Auction in Lexington.

Bob is also survived by his beloved siblings, William “Bill” Bohaning (Melva) and Sue Bohaning Wood (Mike). He was predeceased by his parents and younger brother, Jack Bohaning. His family and friends will miss him on this side of heaven, while cherishing that he lived life in a way that encouraged all to value it fully. Please join us in celebrating the admirable gift of Bob’s life by sharing an act of service, in tribute to the kindness he routinely spread throughout his life.
