Obituary for Louie L. "Red" Queen

Louie “Red” L. Queen, 72, widower of Sondra Louise Cook Queen, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2022.
Born in Dothan, AL, he was a retired lineman with AT&T and veteran of the US Army.

A member of Newtown Christian Church, Red was “all in” and about everything Kentucky, whether it be UK athletics, Keeneland or even the lottery. A member of the American Legion Post 313, he enjoyed playing cards and a quiet day fishing.

He is survived by his children, Brooke (Steve) Scroggins and Brett (Andrea) Queen; grandchildren, Leighton Scroggins, Landry Scroggins, Evan Queen, Dakota (Haley) Shively, Madison (Zac) Shively-Barnhart and Caleb Shively; siblings, Kevin Brackins, Nena (Eddie) Rivera, Susan Queen, Edna Brasher, Pam (Tim) Turner and Tina Brackins; sister-in-law, Sherry (Mark) Wanchic; niece, Christa (Jason) Dees; great niece, Bradley Dees; and great aunt, Jane Penn. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Sally Carroll McDonald, Joseph Richard Queen and L.L. Brackins; in-laws, Mildred and O.M. Cook; and great aunt, Helen Hinton.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Tuesday at Johnson’s Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Bennie Braddick. Burial will follow at the Georgetown Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Dakota Shively, Evan Queen, Caleb Shively, Dave Fouts, Paul Duncan, Mike Duncan and Durbin Wallace. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 313, 1077 E New Circle Rd, Lexington, KY 40505.

As he was an avid UK supporter, Red would love everyone to wear UK apparel to the services.
