Obituary for Helen Louise Payne (Whalen)
Helen Louise (Whalen) Payne, 81, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. She was born on March 30, 1941 in Lexington, Kentucky, daughter of the late Kenneth and Marjorie (Tevis) Whalen. Helen was a retired horse trainer and had worked with Keeneland Race Course and The Lexington Training Center. She enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, cooking, mowing and her dogs. Helen loved to make everyone happy and adored her family.
Helen is survived by one daughter, Judy Criswell; one son, Michael Payne; two grandchildren, Krystle (Tim) Coppage and Ryan Kenneth
Criswell; one great-granddaughter, Freya Coppage; one aunt, Jean Taylor; her dear friends, Virginia McCall, Ronnie, Bobby and Floyd and numerous friends that she has meet over the years in the horse business. Besides her parents, Helen was preceded in death one daughter, Cheryl Morris.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Johnson’s Funeral Home from 11am until time of service at Noon. Burial will be in Crestlawn Cemetery.
