Obituary for Phil Cary Hogg Sr.
Phillip Cary Hogg, Sr, 64, husband of Janet Cain Hogg, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023. Born in Ashland, KY, he was the son of Charles and Jeanette Baldwin Hogg.
“Pastor Phil” served in full time ministry in the United Methodist Church for 38 years. He served throughout Kentucky including churches in Olive Hill, Paint Lick, Flatwoods, Highland Heights, and Georgetown. Phil also spent 17 years in ministry at the Wesley Foundation (MSC) on Morehead State University’s campus. He spent many summers volunteering at Aldersgate Camp and Retreat Center and led multiple mission trips, both domestic and foreign.
He enjoyed music, woodworking, golf and following UK sports and the Cincinnati Reds. Most of all he treasured time spent with his family.
In addition to his parents and his wife of 43 years, he is survived by his sons, Phillip (Jenny) Hogg, Jr, Christopher (Sarah) Hogg and Andrew (Kristen) Hogg; sisters, Patty (Hank) Roark and Angie (Brad) Smart; grandchildren, Nathan, Sadie, Bennett, Jayden, Silas and Luke (due in August).
A celebration of life will be 5 PM Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Georgetown First United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Brad Smart and Rev. Bob Cain. Visitation will be 3 PM till service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wesley Foundation at Morehead State University (304 University Blvd, Morehead, KY 40351), Georgetown First United Methodist Church (PO Box 1089 Georgetown, KY 40324) or Aldersgate Camp and Retreat Center (125 Aldersgate Camp Ravenna, KY 40472).
