Shirley Lewis Sucher, 76, widow of Donald Sanford Sucher, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016. Born February 27, 1939 in Mt. Pleasant, MI, she was the daughter of the late George and Julia Lewis.
Shirley started as a model in New York City, modelling for Hudson’s and Cadillac and was an avid jazz fan, even going out with Paul Desmond. After moving from Detroit in the late 60’s, she and Donald bought Echo Valley Horse Farm in Georgetown, where they bred many great horses including Kentucky Derby winner, Winning Colors and filly triple crown winner, Chris Evert.
Shirley was an avid golfer and had belonged to Greenbrier Golf and Country Club and Bocaire in Florida. She loved competing in golf tournaments and made many of her life-long friends there. She was a devout animal lover and enjoyed her cat Norbert’s company.
She is survived by her daughter, Carmie; as well as Donald’s sons, Bruce (Kelly) Sucher, Jeff (Karen) Sucher and Steve Sucher. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her four sisters.
A Celebration of Life will be 11 AM – 2 PM Sunday at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society or Kentucky Equine Humane Society.
