Obituary for Wayne Murphy

Wayne Murphy, 76, husband of Sandy H. Murphy, passed away Friday, October 19, 2018. Born in Georgetown, KY, he was the son of the late Marion Lee and Lottie Wainscott Murphy.

A lifelong farmer, Wayne was a Scott County treasure. He was a former mail carrier, a retired bus driver for Scott County Public Schools and most recently was an associate with Johnson’s Funeral Home. For more than 50 years, he was a member of Stamping Ground Christian Church where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Chairman of the Board. He was a Past President and long time Board Member for Farm Bureau, the Ruritan Club, where he served as Treasurer for 30 years including serving as a District Governor and National Director, and was a Kentucky Colonel.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by his sons, Keith Todd (Kendra) Murphy and John Kent (Crystal) Murphy; grandchildren, John Paul Murphy and Sara Ann Murphy; great grandchild, Brooklynn Murphy; sister-in-law, Linda Murphy; niece, Beth Pembroke; and nephew, Dale Murphy.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday at Stamping Ground Christian Church, conducted by David Nisbet and Chip Dennison. Burial will follow at the Masonic Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Kent Murphy, Ted Porter, Pete Wise, Jack Murphy, Temple Juett, Gene Thompson, Dale Murphy and Jimmy Murphy. Honorary bearers will be Billy Cassity, Larry Cassity, Allen Martin and Jerry Carmichael. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Thursday at Johnson’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stamping Ground Christian Church.
