John Lair Oldham, 67, husband of Susie Guerrant Oldham died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Hospice Care Center. A native of Georgetown, he was the son of late Edward Tucker and Helen Higbee Oldham and was a graduate of Transylvania University. He was the former owner of Oldham Lumber Co. in Georgetown and the UPS Store in Nicholasville. He was a member of Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church and former member of the First Christian Church, Georgetown. He was a former President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, board member of the Georgetown Community Hospital, and had served as a board member of the Children's Montessori, Georgetown, the Community Montessori and also the Montessori Middle School of Kentucky, Lexington.
Other survivors include two sons: John Thornton Oldham, Ph.D., Boston, MA and Edward Davis (Donna) Oldham, Ph.D., Coralville, IA, a daughter Helen "Ellie" Cochrane Oldham, Lexington, a grandson: William John Oldham, a brother: Edward Higbee (Anne Clay) Oldham, Lexington, a nephew, Edward Tucker (Deirdre) Oldham II, Louisville and two great nephews: Field Blanton Oldham II and Daniel Hardy Oldham.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday at the First Christian Church, Georgetown by Rev. Robert M. Franz. Committal services will be in the Lexington Cemetery conducted by The Rev. Erin Rouse. Casket bearers will be Edward Tucker Oldham II, Hugh Richards, John H. Kerr III, Christopher Chamberlain, Ralph Russell and Jay Hendricks. Visitation will be 5—8 PM Friday at Johnson's Funeral Home.
